Social anxiety disorder is another name of social phobia. It refers to some avoidable psychological constraints of a person. It is a consequence of being afraid of social affairs. There are some people around us who often feel uneasy to come forward for any social correspondence. Usually they always hesitate when expressing themselves in front of others. We can call them introverts sometimes but not all introverts have SAD. It is quite difficult to solve this problem if the person himself does not volunteer. This sort of person is self centered so they don’t like going outside of their sphere of life.
A person with social anxiety disorder feels shy to speak in front of a group of people if they are judges. They are often afraid of being judged by others. Some of them even hesitate to take their meals with an unknown person. They don’t want to be asked for doing something. If someone insists on reading or writing something in front of an audience, they feel extremely shy. Social anxiety disorder may turn into panic if it prevails for a long time. The problem continues to increase when they do not get support from others.
For curing the problem they need assistance from their friends, relatives or nearest ones. As they themselves don’t ask for the help to get rid of this problem, the appropriate person should come forward. If nobody is helping them, then they should take initiative and go to a doctor. There are two types of SAD: specific SAD and general SAD.
In case of specific SAD, the person becomes anxious for a specific reason. The person is always afraid of facing that particular event or activity. The general disorder includes the fear of being judged and shyness for own action. The affected person might have a hard time facing public events or gatherings where interaction is required. They often feel under pressure in such a situation where their actions are being observed and feel extremely shy for that. While facing these events, they start to show several symptoms. Their hearts start beating faster and as a result, they mumble or blush. Sometimes they can’t even remember anything since they explain later on that their minds went blank at that moment. But these symptoms are age specific. A child faces uncomfortable situation and starts crying or clinging to parents. An adult starts sweating or blushing in this case.
There are several reasons behind SAD. It occurs when a person possesses low self-esteem and clinical depression due to lack of good relation with society and its related affairs. SAD may occur due to other reasons that are genetic and family factors. In one study, the researcher has shown that many of the patients inherit the anxiety from their ancestors who had SAD. From the genetic viewpoint, it is possible to be affected even if a person has no other reason. Apart from these reasons, social experience and cultural influence dominate upon the issue. The main recommendation for the affected person is that he or she should go to a doctor and follow their advice.
